Five loaves and two fish
For the past three days, I have both helping out and attending workshops at the go4th nationwide missions conference. God is mobilising his people to respond to the needs of the world with compassion and calling. They are entering many strata of life – the poor, the marginalised, the business and corporate world, countries, the media. May the message of Hope reach the nations. God loves the world and the people that he made.
The Navigators have an exhibition booth, along with about 30 other groups. Yesterday, a young woman at the booth opposite ours came smiling to me. She said, “Hi Angel. Do you remember me? I’m one of LY’s Bible study girls.”
After a brief introduction, I put the face and name together. She said, “I saw you and I just had to come to say hi.” She said that LY her Bible study leader during her secondary school days had talked a lot about how she had been inspired by me. My heart was thrilled for many reasons.
I discovered that she has been for the past three years living in one of challenging-to-live cities in Asia. She went there first as a student, and now as a business person. In her first two years, God used her to lead some of her friends to Christ. One of these girls in turn led her entire family to Christ. Her family live up some remote mountain. The young lady had gone to visit the family. She told me that she is teaching these young believers everything that LY had taught her.
What a thrill that God can use our little to do something with long term and eternal rippling effects.
I wonder what God will have me do to respond more strategically to the needs around and beyond me. I am limited by physical, emiotional, geographical, financial etc resources. Jesus, who made five loaves and two fish feed five thousand men (their wives and children were not included in the head count – so more than five thousand were fed!) can do it if we bring the needs to him.
