You called my name!

“Good afternoon and welcome to MacDonalds,” said the crew when I stepped up to the counter.

It took a while for me to understand what the dark skinned foreigner was saying when he took my order. He got busy punching the keys and then going to the rack to pick up my burgers and chips. Sham bent down behind the counter to get me some packets of chilli and napkins.

“Thank you Sham,” I told him.

Immediately he popped his head up, gave me the biggest smile and said, “Hey! You’re the first person that ever called me by my name!”

It didn’t take much to make someone’s day.

I thought it would go away

For the past week, I had been having a dull toothache around the area where I am having my root canal treatment done. I totally ignored the toothache because it was bearable. Besides, I already had a follow-up dental appointment scheduled. I thought I could still wait. A part of me was hoping the toothache would go away by itself.

Today was the day I went to see my dentist. She had to probe on the area where I was experiencing the dull ache. It was infected!

To cut a long story short, she had to
1. extract one tooth (it was fractured!)
2. remove the crown from one of the teeth

First she injected me so that she could extract the fractured tooth. But it was the one that was infected. So the anaesthetic didn’t work! She injected me many times. Yikes!

Ok — before you start cringing… we didn’t remove the tooth today. It hurt too much. (We’re going to try again on Saturday – yikes again!)

Then she had to remove the old crown of the other tooth (next to the fracture and  infected tooth… yike again!) The old crown was sealed so well that it wouldn’t budge! She had to work very hard to drill and cut and dig and… I thought I was going to lose my good tooth in the process of all that force.

I tried to stay calm and relaxed while all that was happening. I prayed!

Then I thought what a delicate and hard work is to eradicate sin from our lives. Only God can do the precise work of removing sin without destroyed us.  Anyway I pray that I will be sensitive to sin in my life and deal with them quickly.

A life of its own

First I couldn’t wait to finish the transcribing.
Then I thought, “Yaay! I finished the first draft!”
Then I thought, “Yippy I’ve done the layout.”
Etc… etc…

Finally I thought, “Wow! It’s published. NOW, I can finally rest…”

Hmmm… think again…

It’s one thing to complete it, it’s another to get Aunty’s story into the hands of people so they can read.
I’m almost running out of stock for the thousand that we printed.

The book has a life of its own. It is opening doors to connect with people.

May the Lord use the life of Aunty to bless and challenge many hearts.
